Privacy policy

This page says what Seaside Studios collects, why, who else handles it, how long we keep it, and how to have it deleted. Seaside Studios is the trading name of Gerard Belenguer, who is responsible for the data described here ("we"). Write to seasidegamestudios@gmail.com with any question, request or complaint.
Our websites
This covers seasidegamestudios.com and its other sites, such as docs.seasidegamestudios.com. They show no advertising, and seasidegamestudios.com and docs.seasidegamestudios.com set no cookies. If you close the newsletter box on seasidegamestudios.com, or sign up through it, your browser keeps a note of that so the box does not come back: for 30 days after closing it, for good after signing up. The note stays in your browser and is never sent to us.
Visit counts
We count visits with Umami, which runs on our own server. For each page you open it records the page, the site you came from, your browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language, and your country, and where it can tell your region and city, worked out from your IP address. On seasidegamestudios.com it also records which of our links you followed out, such as one to our assets on the Unity Asset Store. Umami does not store your IP address. To count a visitor once, it turns your IP address and browser into a code that changes every month. We keep these counts with no set end date.
Server logs
Our server records each request it answers: the time, your IP address, the address you asked for and your browser. We use these logs to keep the sites running and to block repeated failed sign-ins. Older logs are deleted as newer ones replace them, which today takes about ten days.
YouTube videos in the documentation
Some documentation pages show our tutorial videos from YouTube in its privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). Opening one of those pages connects your browser to YouTube, which is part of Google, so Google receives your IP address. Google says that in this mode YouTube does not store information about visitors unless they play the video. The Google Privacy Policy covers what Google does.
Links to the Asset Store
Our links to the Unity Asset Store carry our affiliate code, so Unity can tell when a sale came from our site. The links bundle owners use to claim their assets do not, because nothing is sold there. What Unity records once you arrive is covered by Unity's own privacy policy.
The newsletter
If you sign up for our newsletter, we keep your email address, when you signed up, where on the site you did it, and the exact sentence you agreed to, as the record of your consent. Until you click the link in the confirmation email we send, you get nothing else from us, and if you do not click it within 3 days your address is deleted.
- Your address is kept on our server in Helsinki, Finland, which Hetzner hosts: in our signup service, and in listmonk, the program that sends the newsletter.
- The emails are sent by Amazon Simple Email Service, from Amazon Web Services' Stockholm region in Sweden. If your address turns out not to exist, or you mark one of our emails as spam, Amazon tells us and we stop mailing it.
- If we count opens or clicks, we see only totals, never which person opened or clicked.
- The welcome email and every newsletter have a link to leave the list, which works at once.
- Your IP address is used only to stop abuse of the form, and is not stored with your address.
We rely on your consent (Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR), and you can withdraw it at any time by leaving the list. When you leave, we keep your address marked as unsubscribed so it is never mailed again by mistake. Ask us and we delete it completely.
Seaside Social, our publishing tool
Seaside Social is a private tool that the members of Seaside Studios use to prepare, approve, schedule and publish the studio's own posts on the studio's own accounts on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, X and Bluesky, and to see how those posts did. Only members can sign in. It publishes only to accounts the studio owns, and nothing is published until a member has approved it.
What it collects
- The studio's accounts: each account's name and handle, and the access keys the platform issues so the tool can act for that one account.
- Our own posts: each post's ID and link, and its public numbers as the platform reports them, such as views, likes, comments and shares.
- Comments on our posts on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, X and Bluesky: the text, when it was written, its ID and link, and the commenter's public name or handle as the platform shows it. When a member answers one, the reply is published under it on that platform.
- The studio's members: their name and sign-in name, when they last used the tool, and a record of who wrote, approved, scheduled or sent what, and when.
- Playtests of our game Prisonado: the test builds we give to friends send what happens in the game, such as runs, fights, choices and errors, with the build and platform it runs on, under a random player code the game keeps on each computer and shows on its main menu. A member may write a name next to a code. The tool does not store the IP address or browser these come from.
The tool reads no private messages, and follows and likes no one. It sets no cookies; it keeps two display settings in a member's browser, the brand they last filtered by and the header's animation.
Why
- To publish the studio's posts at the time a member chose, after a member approved them.
- To show the studio how each post did against its own earlier posts.
- To find questions and bug reports in comments, so that a member can answer them.
- To see where playtesters get stuck or stop, and make the game better.
For comments and playtests we rely on our legitimate interest in running the studio's own accounts and making its game (Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR). Members' data is used so they can do their work in the tool.
Who else handles it
We do not sell or rent this data, and the tool shows no advertising. These providers handle it for us, only to run the tool:
- Hetzner Online GmbH hosts our server and its backups in Helsinki, Finland.
- Anthropic, in the United States, runs Claude, which the tool asks to draft and improve posts, sort comments and suggest replies. Claude receives the text each task needs, comments included, and reads the tool's data when we ask it a question about it. The studio's Claude account is set so that none of this is used to train Anthropic's models.
- Telegram delivers the studio's notifications: post numbers, titles and links, and, when comments ask a question or report a bug, the commenter's name and the first part of each comment.
- Zernio, a posting service, publishes our TikTok posts and reads their numbers and comments for us.
- The platforms receive what we publish to them, under their own terms.
Where it is kept, and for how long
Everything is stored on our server in Helsinki, Finland. The access keys are kept apart from the rest, readable only by the tool, and sent only to the service they belong to.
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Account names and access keys | Until the account is disconnected in the tool, which deletes its copy of the keys at once |
| Our posts, their links and numbers, and the comments and replies on them | As long as the post is in the tool; we have not set an end date yet |
| Members' names and records | As long as the tool runs; a member who leaves can ask us to delete theirs |
| Playtest records | While we work on the game; send us your player code and we delete yours |
YouTube
Seaside Social uses YouTube API Services to upload the studio's approved videos to its own channel, to post the studio's own comments and replies there, and to read the channel's name, our videos' public numbers and the public comments on them. By using Seaside Social you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service. How Google handles data is set out in the Google Privacy Policy.
Everything this page says about Seaside Social applies to what it gets from YouTube: what it keeps, why, who else handles it and for how long.
To remove the tool's access, press Disconnect on YouTube in the tool's settings, which deletes its copy of the access keys at once and asks Google to end the tool's access, or remove it in Google's security settings. Ask us and we delete everything the tool holds from YouTube within 7 days.
Backups
Every night the databases on our server, the newsletter's and Seaside Social's included, are copied into a backup. The last 14 nights are kept on the server, and every night's copy also goes to a separate Hetzner storage box in Helsinki, where old copies are not yet deleted on a schedule. Something we delete stays in the older backups; if we ever restore one, we delete it again before the restored data is used.
Your rights
You can ask to see what we hold about you, to get a copy, to have it corrected or deleted, or to have us stop or limit using it. Write to seasidegamestudios@gmail.com. We reply within 7 days, and if you asked us to delete something, it is deleted by then.
You can also complain to the data protection authority of the EU country where you live, where you work, or where you think the problem happened.
